FTI Technology Provides Technical Expertise in Complex Remediation Project Across Emerging Data Sources
As part of a large data disposition project, a client in the insurance industry needed support with collecting and reviewing data from its Slack instance. The exercise involved numerous technical challenges and resource constraints, requiring an efficient and targeted approach. Using FTI Technology Connect, a team of emerging data sources experts helped the client identify the population for remediation while reducing costs by approximately 80% over alternative methods.
Situation
Following a defensible disposal exercise within its Google Workspace environment, in which the client defensibly removed specific data and documents, there was a need to identify related materials stored in Slack that should also be remediated. However, the organization did not want to conduct a full collection, processing and review exercise across everything within its large Slack environment. Rather, the objective was to avoid processing costs and conduct searches directly within Slack, so that relevant data could be identified and removed in an efficient and targeted manner.
Granular technical work was needed at every step of the process. Due to incompatibility between different search formats used across the various systems involved, custom, dynamic scripts were required to continuously translate syntaxes as new search terms were added. These scripts also needed to allow for tagging and exporting data that was identified as relevant to the client’s review platform.
Our Role
FTI Technology’s emerging data sources team was engaged to apply its Connect solution and provide custom workflow development for the Slack portion of the remediation. Connect is a proprietary platform built to drive faster access to insights within modern data sources and provides pre-built source connectors into a wide range of cloud systems, collaboration applications and other platforms.
Leveraging Connect, FTI Technology provided:
- Access to the entire Slack dataset without requiring the client to allocate time and budget to traditional data processing.
- Custom scripts to enable compatibility between different systems used for search, export and review.
- Advanced and complex searches across all content within the Slack environment, including logical operators, wildcard searches and proximity searches, within an automated and cost-effective workflow.
- Identified new search terms to surface additional relevant material that was not located from the initial set of terms.
- A targeted dataset for the client to review for potential remediation.
Our Impact
FTI Technology’s custom approach and Connect solution helped the client streamline an expensive, high volume data collection, processing and review exercise. By providing an efficient way to identify the target data prior to processing and export, FTI Technology delivered an estimated 80% cost savings compared to what the client would have spent on collecting and processing hundreds of gigabytes of Slack data for review prior to its remediation.
